My Grace Place
The year 2020 was spent isolating at home to save those we love from the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the fears and anxieties I had, and still have, about the current state of the world, I was lucky to find a safe place in my family home. The small moments like waking up to the sun warming my bed or sipping coffee while my dog snored next to me, offered a glimmer of light in a time where everything else seemed so dark.
Through the Glass
Famous curator and critic, John Szarkowski, suggests that there are two modern day conceptions of a photograph. It is either a mirror, reflecting a portrait of the artist who made it, or a window, allowing us to get to know the world better. Throughout the years I have taken numerous window photos, as I was drawn to the aesthetic look of a frame within a frame. Yet when I think of Szarckowski’s theory, I’ve come to realize that what I once thought were windows, are actually mirrors, displaying unique parts of me.
